Thank you for choosing Wendy’s Home Cakery! Every cake is freshly baked and handcrafted to order using quality ingredients. To ensure your cake looks and tastes its very best, please follow the care instructions below.
Transporting Your Cake
Your cake will be securely boxed before collection, but it is important to transport it carefully.
Once the cake leaves Wendy’s Home Cakery, responsibility for its safe transport passes to the customer.
When You Get Home
Store your cake somewhere cool, dry and away from direct sunlight, radiators and heat sources.
Avoid placing your cake near strong-smelling foods, as cakes can absorb odours.
Keep the cake in its box until you’re ready to display or serve it.
Buttercream Cakes
Buttercream cakes are best stored in the refrigerator.
Do not leave buttercream cakes in direct sunlight or warm rooms for extended periods.
Fondant (Sugar Paste) Cakes
Fondant cakes should usually be stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place.
Avoid refrigerating fondant cakes unless they contain perishable fillings (see below), as condensation can make the fondant sticky or cause colours to run.
Keep away from humidity and direct sunlight.
If your fondant cake contains fresh fillings, please follow the storage advice provided for those fillings.
Cakes with Fresh Fillings
Cakes containing fresh cream, mascarpone, cream cheese frosting, fresh fruit, custard or similar perishable fillings must be refrigerated.
For food safety, consume within the recommended time advised when collecting your cake.
Fresh Flowers
If your cake includes fresh flowers, please remember they are decorative only unless specifically stated to be edible.
Flowers should be removed before serving.
Decorations
Many decorations are edible, but some are for decoration only.
Please remove any of the following before serving if applicable:
If your cake is tiered, each tier should be separated before cutting.
Cutting Your Cake
For the best portion sizes:
Round cakes are best cut into strips before cutting into individual portions.
Tall cakes should be cut into approximately 1-inch slices for generous servings.
Wedding and celebration cakes often provide far more portions than traditional triangular slices.
Freezing Your Cake
Most sponge cakes freeze beautifully.
To freeze:
Allow slices to thaw naturally at room temperature before enjoying.
Please note that cakes containing fresh cream or fresh fruit may not freeze as well.
